PhD Reform+ in a Nutshell

The 2025 PhD Reform and other recent legal changes impacting doctoral studies in the Czech Republic are quite a complex set of issues, which we wanted to make as accessible as possible for our PhD community.

We are glad we can finally share its first English version. The decision to publish it separately was taken because we consider it important to provide a comprehensive insight into the recent changes around PhD studies sooner rather than later and to fill in the gap of lacking information, which is most dramatic for those who cannot find out about the situation from the predominantly Czech only sources.

The full-fledged Czech version will be published shortly after the summer, along with the update to the English version, which will be based on the feedback we receive.

The Document opens with an introduction explaining its purpose and structure. The detailed summary of the main changes is followed by the FAQ section. It also includes action point sections for current and prospective PhDs and concludes with an afterword by ČAD about future challenges and plans regarding PhD matters in the Czech Republic after the 2025 Reform.
