New Čad Board and PhD Reform

Dear colleagues,

In the next newsletter of our Association, we bring you a report from the ČAD General Assembly held on February 5, 2025, the newly elected Board, and developments in the Parliament around the Amendment to the Higher Education Act and the reform of doctoral studies in the Czech Republic that is part of it.

New ČAD Board

The February 5th ČAD General Assembly took place online with record-high participation, for which we would like to thank everyone who decided to dedicate their time and energy to ČAD. We greatly appreciate you caring about what is happening in our Association. The General Assembly elected a new six-member Board:

We thank you for trusting us with this responsibility of representing ČAD and we would also like to give thanks to the outgoing Board: Klára Šárovcová, Maria Přibylová and Zbyněk Mucha for all their work and commitment to our mission of defending the rights of doctoral researchers and improving the conditions of PhDs in the Czech Republic. We will soon introduce the new Board to you in greater detail, along with other activities we are preparing.

Amendment ot the Higher Education Act

The Amendment to the Higher Education Act has been examined by the senate which adopted a modified version, later approved also by the Chambre of deputies. The PhD Reform is not affected by these changes and the Amendment is now waiting for the position of the President of the Czech Republic. His stance to either veto the legislation and send it back to the Parliament or signing of the legislation as is will be known by March 4 at the latest.
